As I know it the gospel goes something like this…
Some would add more to it and some would make it simpler. But for me that is it in a nutshell. This is the full story.
Have you ever watched a movie or read a book halfway and then been interrupted so you missed the rest? It’s pretty frustrating. You get all of the build-up and all of the questions, but none of the answers or full story line.
For some reason, there are some people that like to do this with the good news. They like to only speak about the first three points. They like to preach a message of judgement. When they do they miss the point. When you cut the story in half you miss the ending, the hope, the resolution.
Unfortunately, others only enter the story at point 5. They like to focus on Jesus and how He came to set us free from the ways that the enemy has entrapped and attacked us. While this sounds like a great story, it removes all sense of personal responsibility and the need for repentance.
When we communicate the good news, we must speak the whole gospel. We all need a full understanding of the story in order to make any sense of our relationship with ourselves and with God. Let’s not be a church that misses important aspects of the gospel. Let’s embrace and preach the full gospel. It’s a beautiful story of rebellion and redemption.
