Having spent a week thinking about being the Body of Christ, it's possible that we can fall into a trap of feeling that the answer is, “do more – try harder”. If we're given gifts, we're expected to use them; we're supposed to serve. Perhaps you feel that now you have an idea of your gifts, you have to add some extra activities to your schedule.
However, our service is intended to come from a place of rest. Jesus says, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”. (Matthew 11:30) If serving the Body of Christ and using your gifts for Him seems like an added burden, then something is drastically wrong!
First, your relationship with Jesus needs to be the keystone from which all your decisions are made. It is spiritually healthy to regularly place your activities before your King and ask Him what you should be doing! You are responsible to Him first, and it is His job to ensure that the world ticks, not yours!
Second, it helps us to realise that our lives are seasonal. There are seasons of great activity, and less obvious activity. None of them are superfluous or unimportant. Consider the deciduous fruit tree – spring sees great growth spurts and the promise of fruit. Summer leaves provide shade and there is abundant fruit. Then there is beautiful transformation of colour in autumn and final harvesting. In winter the sun is allowed to filter through. Not one season is a waste. We don't berate a healthy tree for it's state, instead we enjoy it's design.
"The [godly] person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither--
whatever they do prospers. "
So, delve deep into your relationship with Jesus. Make him King of your whole life, including your schedule, and allow Him to knit you into His Body from a place of rest.
