As a teenager and right up until my early 30’s, I really didn’t know why I was here and what the purpose of my life was.
I think we all ask these sorts of questions as we go through life. By age 32, I was a parent, I was paying off the small house we lived in, I had a job, a car, a motorbike, and friends I regularly went out with. I worked, looked after my daughter and went riding and partying as often as I could.
Despite having my little version of the ‘Great Aussie Dream’ there was still a great emptiness inside me… which no amount of riding, partying, stuff, or relationships seemed to fill.
This led me to a search that eventually connected me through the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to God. My discovery brought with it a new sense of meaning and purpose to my life.
Jesus once said in a prayer...
“Now this is eternal life: that people know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3
When I met God I learned that I am so much more than my physical actions, thoughts, and feelings… That we are spiritual beings designed to live for eternity in relationship with our Creator.
Connecting with God spirit to Spirit is the first step of this relationship. When we enter this relationship then God works with us to show others this relationship too. This is the purpose of God’s Church, and why He doesn’t whisk us off to Heaven when we first come to know Him…
Meaning and purpose is found working with Him to see His Kingdom arrive here on earth.
Before Jesus returned to Heaven, He commissioned all who entered into relationship with Him to join Him in His mission, He said “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mathew 28:18-20
