"Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. " Matthew 4:23
Speaking is more than just opening your words and letting words come out. Some of the most powerful things we can say have nothing to do with what we say and everything to do with what we do. As they say; Actions speak louder than words.
Jesus was no different. He went around speaking out the Good news through His words, through His healings, through the way that He cared for and gave dignity to the outcasts. He lived a life of integrity, His actions backed up His mouth and His mouth backed up His actions. He spoke the Good news of salvation through word, sign and deed.
His words were always full of authority, truth and grace. When He ate with the outcasts He communicated God’s love and favour is for all. When He healed He told the whole world that he was God and that God was able to bring fullness and wholeness of life.
In Luke 9 Jesus sends out the twelve with His authority to speak out the Kingdom of God (The heart and authority of God, you might say the good news of God’s presence with us) and to heal the sick and drive out demons.
Jesus wants us all to speak the good news through word sign and deed. This is far more difficult than just standing on a street corner and preaching. It means we will have to get our hands dirty. It will mean we will place ourselves with people we may not normally socialise with. It will mean we will take steps of faith and ask to pray for people who don’t know Him and expect healings. It will mean that we back up our words with our actions. People need to see that the good news we speak works in the real world – so let’s show them that it does. Let show them the Good News works and that God is real and effective by the way that we live our lives.
